ASSAULTED AND ROBBED ON NEW YEAR'S MORNING.

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 2. A. M. Baird, a middle-aged restaurateur, was assaulted and robbed of two days’ takings (£6B) about 1.30 a.m. on New Year’s Da3 r . He went home in a taxi in which were two other men passengers. All left the taxi at Baird's gate and he wished the others a happy New Year. Then, he says, he was sandbagged and robbed of a bag containing the money. The taxi, in the meantime, had gone on. He shouted for help and people, including his wife who was at a party across the road, came out and picked him up. He was suffering from two black e>*es and a broken nose.
