PERSONAL.

Mr Walter L. C. M’Lean (Havelock North) is a guest at the United Service Hotel.

Mr M. Braun (Valparaiso, Chile) is a guest at Warner’s Hotel.

At the conclusion of the service at the Redcliffs Mission Room last Sunday, the retirement of Mr Adlev from the position of organist, which he has held for the past seventeen years, was marked by the presentation of a goldmounted fountain pen. The Rev H. Northcote made the presentation, after some remarks by the vicar, the Rev W. A. Orange, reference being made to Mr Adley’s constant attendance. In responding, Mr Adley referred to the earlier history of the Mission Room, and remarked upon the many improvements effected. Musical circles in Christchurch will be interested to learn that advice has been received from Dr Jarman, of Launceston, of his acceptance of the position of organist and choirmaster of the Durham Street Methodist Church. Probably he will be unable to take up his duties before the beginning of April next. Dr Jarman is at present City Organist at Launceston, and organist and choirmaster at the Paterson Street Methodist Church of that city, where he has a choir of fifty voices, which at the last Tasmanian competitions won the grand choral contest (96 and 94 points), the church choir contest (95 and 92 points) and the ladies’, choir contest (97 and 94 points). Dr Jarman will be remembered in Christchurch as the adjudicator at the competitions some two or three years ago.
