It is ideal holiday weather, however, and traffic through Reefton is brisk. Many motorists are making the round trip Greymouth-Reefton-Westport and home along the Coast road. The roads are in first-class order. Maruia Springs is also a favourite resort, and during the holidays hundreds of people have visited the locality. A large crowd assembled for the races. The unemployed are rather dilatory in taking advantage of the work offered under the unemployed relief scheme No. 2. To date only one man has been put on work, and there are several offers of work still open. Bush Fire. Fire broke out in the bush near the Globe mine, and quickly spread to the mine buildings. The store-room, containing some valuable mining implements and a cottage behind it, were destroyed. The property is owned by the Consolidated Goldmines, and the loss in mining implements is a serious one. Cricket. Playing a friendly game against a home side, Cobden won by three wickets and 34 runs. Cobden made 188. Best scores were: Matthews 26, Knapp 68, Sandham 17, Rose 18, Gilmour 14, M’Nabb 13. Reefton scored 154 (Paul 16, Blom 19, Scott 21, Hannah 44, Hill 20). Blom took six wickets for Reefton, and Knapp eight wickets for Cobden.
