BRADMAN SMILED AT ASTOUNDING DECISION.”

(United Press Assr,.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, December 31. Arthur Mailey, commenting on the penalty which was imposed on Don Bradman by the Board of Cricket Control, says that Bradman returned from Melbourne with a grin on his face, but minus £SO. He adds: “There is a strong feeling among cricketers that Bradman either broke his agreement or he did not. Therefore, he should have been fined £l5O or nothing. The general opinion is that the board’s decision is most astounding.” Bradman declined to comment, beyond saying that his offence was no worse than Grimmett’s—both of them sold the serial rights of their cricket experiences. British Opinions. LONDON, December 31. The “Daily Telegraph” states that one can only sympathise with the officials charged with the duty of disciplining Bradman. The 1912 Board [ of Control made itself extremely un- . popular when Trumper, Hill, Arm- • strong, Cotter and Ransford objected ■ to the conditions laid down. The pre- . sent board had to face the problem of . finding a punishment which would save . the face of its authority without in- : furiating the public, so tactfully, but - not very courageously', decided on a - compromise. ; As Bradman must have made ten j times as much out of his book, it was - not surprising that he emerged from 5 the judgment hall with a broad smile. I Ilis friends argue that Bradman had just as much right to publish the story 1 of his life as Grimmett had to publish a book on bowling. EE® Si El! SI Sill IS Sl®®!*]® SI IS SI SIS 3
