A simple method of renovating ironwork fenders, bedsteads, etc., that have become shabby is to buy some vegetable black and mix with one part gold size and two parts turpentine. Shake well and, after removing all dirt and dust from the ironwork by washing and scrubbing well with hot soda water and drying thoroughly, apply a little of the preparation with a stiff brush. When nearly dry polish with an ordinary boot blacking brush and finish with a soft cloth. Fire grates and radiators can be given a coating of this mixture instead of ordinary blacklead.
