ABOUT STOCKINGS.
Keep old stockings for patching. It is far better to patch a large bole in the heel than to try and darn it. If you find the Beams of your stockings break into- little holes up the back of the leg, set your machine to a fine stitch and run up the whole seam again, enclosing the devastated area. When a ladder suddenly springs and you have not time to change your stockings, moisten the end of the ladder and rub with a piece of soap. This will “gum” the dropped stitch in place temporarily. When darning his old socks, remember that the new mending wool will shrink in washing, and unless you allow for this shrinkage the darn will, pucker.
