TWO SEAMEN CHARGED WITH DESERTING SHIP.
Charles Liddy and George Gladding, two seamen, were charged, before Messrs W. T. Foster, J.P., and W. C. Cleary, J.P., at the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court this morning, with deserting from the s.s. Ruapehu at Wellington ip October. Liddy pleaded guilty, but Gladding stated that he missed his passage. Mr Skippage, branch manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company, applied for costs, and stated that the men deserted the ship three days before its departure from Wellington. The accused were each sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment. Costs were not allowed.
