THREAT TO MINE BY WATER RISING.
DANGER REPORTED AT BLACKBALL COLLIERY. (Special to the “ Star.*")' GREYMOUTH, November 28. The position at the Blackball mine, where, through a breakdown to the pump, the water has risen, is reported to be serious. The pump loaned from the Grey Valley Collieries, Dobson, was not used to-day owing, it is said, to likely damage from acids in the water. Another pump has been brought from Otira, but it is reported that some alterations and repairs will have to be made to it. Unless the water can be dealt with quickly, there is a danger of the mine flooding and mining operations ceasing.
