THREE MEN HAVE NARROW ESCAPE
FOULED POWER LINE CAUSES ACCIDENT* (Special to the “Star.”) TEMUKA, November 29. Three men received severe electric shocks at the Waihi Bridge, Winchester, yesterday while handling steel girders. The jib crane fouled a power line, carrying 6600 volts, and shortcircuited down on to the girder and winch-handle. A man named Oliver, of Christchurch, was burned on the feet and hands. Another man, named M’Laughlin, received burns on both hands, and J. Baker, of Temuka, received a severe shock. Only the prompt action of the safety contact-breaker on the transmission lines saved the men from death. They received medical attention, and Oliver was taken home to Christchurch. The accident is not likely to inter* fere with work at the bridge.
