FOR CYCLISTS. Young newcomers to cycling should endeavour to cultivate habits which promote more safety and ease of mind on the roads. When cycling, it is necessary not only to watch the traffic in front, but to listen for sounds coming from side roads and behind. Never allow yourself to ride along mechanically, but keep on the alert, and you will then be doing a great deal towards making the roads safe for all. FOR CRICKETERS. In choosing your stance at the wicket you should adopt one that is natural and convenient, but also one that will' place you in the correct position for good batting. It is best to take up the model position first and then slightly adapt it to your own comfort. Take your guard inside the batting crease, and then make a small blockhole in the ground. For a right-handed bowler bowling over the wicket, the most usual guard is middle and leg, or two leg as it is called. Hold the bat with the left hand at or near the top of the handle, and the right hand about half-way down. (Lefthanded batsmen will use the opposite hands, of course.) Stand with your chest towards point, and your left elbow and shoulder towards the bowler. Let your weight fall equally on both legs. THE MUSIC CIRCLE. Last Saturday the final meeting of the "Star" Music Circle was held. Miss Sadie Lilly being the hostess. As a change from the usual programme of music, the afternoon was spent in competitions. . . A musical composer competition arranged by Ted Anderson was won by Marjorie Alexander, with Jean Houghton second.. An instrument competition was also won by Marjorie, with Sadie Lilly, Maurice Jarden and Kathleen Dettmer equal for second place. “Signs about the City,” an observation test, was the third amusement won by Tean Houghton and (shall I tell it?) Aunt Hilda as booby! A word-guessing competition was won by Aunt Hilda with Bernard Bale second. A very dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs Lilly. The annual break-up will hold in Begg’s music room next Saturday night, when the various sub-circles 01 the “Star” Circle will combine. Members are requested to bring a basket, a friend, cups and 6d, 7.30 p.m. Fun and frolic for the finish of a years profit-j able study.
