FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO PAY GOLD BONUS.

WILL ATTRACT MILLIONS OF ENGLISH CAPITAL. (United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) CANBERRA, November 27. The Federal Government have decided to pay a bonus of £1 per ounce on all gold produced in Australia in excess of last year’s production. _ The Labour caucus claims that this will attract millions o| English and will probably give employment to 50,000 miners and prospectors. Pension for Widow. The Minister of Defence has announced that the Government have grarited a pension and a grant of £SOO as compensation to the widow of SquadronLeader Palastra, the Australian Air Force officer who lost his life in the RlOl disaster. Inflation. Mr J. E. Fenton, Acting-Prime Minister, replying to a question in the House of Commons concerning the suggestion for the inflation of the currency, said that the public would be made fully aware of the Government’s proposals next week following the conference with the Commonwealth Bank Board. The Basic Wage. The Government intend to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into questions relating to the basic wage, embracing banking, finance, the national income and productivity of Australia, the distribution of costs in trading and financial institutions, the effect of tariffs and bonuses, the effect of varying exchange rates on Australian monetary values, and other aspects determining price levels and the cost of living.
