LATE SOCIAL NEWS.
FETE IS HELD AT NORTH LINWOOD SCHOOL A fete was held this afternoon in the North Linwood school grounds, Woodham Road, to raise funds for the Dental Clinic and other school purposes. The fete was organised by Mr W. Roger, the headmaster, Mr G. T. Baker, chairman of the School Committee and Mr J. Maxwell, secretary. In opening the fair, the Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer), commented on the fine display of work on the stalls, and wished the organisers every success in their undertaking. Mr Archer was accompanied by Mrs Archer and Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and Mrs Sullivan. There were many attractions, the chocolate alley and the other sideshows being well patronised by the children, while the decorated cars made a colourful display. The following is a list of the stalls and stallholders, who were assisted by a willing band of helpers:—Variety, Mrs A. E. Diehl; cakes, Mrs G. T. Baker; art, Miss Le Compte; flowers, Mr Line; fruit and health, Miss Hughes; dainty dish, Mrs Freidman; sweets, Miss Jones; Christmas tree and bran tub, Mrs Keirney and Miss Free; ice cream and soft drinks, Miss Fox; produce, Mr Brooklands; side shows, Mr Stirling; entertainment, Mr Findlay; afternoon tea, Miss Webster; inside competitions, Mrs Benfel; outside competitions, Mr A. E. Diehl. The fete will be continued this evening and to-morrow afternoon. Fruit cake—Mrs Wardle 1, Mrs Saunders 2. Pikelets— Mrs Hough 1, Mrs Jameson 2. Blowers. Gentlemen’s buttonhole—V. Wardle 1. Decorated vase—Joan Orr 1, Shirley Buick 2, Sylvia Jack 3.
