INTRUDER SHOT BY HOUSEHOLDER.
DEAD MAN HAD N.Z. CRIMINAL RECORD. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received November 28, 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, November 27. Hearing the crash of breaking glass at the front door of her home in the suburb of Burnley early yesterday morning, Mrs Whitington called out to her husband: “ Quick, dad, there’s somebody trying to break in. He has a revolver.” Her husband, William Whitington, seized his son’s gun and fired through the leadlights, and a man fell dead on the front doorstep. He had no or house-breaking implements in his possession. , The man has been identified as Frank Ellis, whose crime record is a long one, with convictions in several States and \n New Zealand.
