The Christchurch Star.
London Representatives R. B. BRETT & SON NEW BRIDGE HOUSE, 30/34 NEW BRIDGE STREET LONDON, E.C.4. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1930. THE WORST NEVER HAPPENS.
PUBLISHED BY New Zealand Newspapers Ltd. Gloucester Street and Cathedral Square CHRISTCHURCH NEW ZEALAND.
T TNDER the cloud of war we sang of silver linings. We kept smiling and won through. Under the shadow of the present economic depression we need to remember again that the worst never happens. It was the spirit of the people that won the war, and a similar optimism will carry us into the sunshine again. A gloomy outlook and a tight lid on the money-box will only drive us further down the slope. What business needs is quick custom. What the working man needs is a productive job. Neither of these will be supplied by miserliness. By wise, not extravagant, spending, by the steady circulation of money, and by honest toil, we shall arrive shortly at a better appreciation of values and normal times again.
