The market for Bank shares continues to be rather quiet, but there has been greater activity in the class devoted to Government and local body stocks and trading debentures. Several parcels have changed hands since noon yesterday. At this morning’s call there was an easier tone in the banking section The best buyers for Commercials stopped at 16s 6d, and for New South Wales at £3O 10s. Bank of New Zealands were weak, being offered at £2 15s. Unions had a sale at £9 12s, a drop of 4s 6d in eight days, after which the best bid was £9 9s. New Zealand Breweries steadied again with buyers at £2 2 9d. A buyer for Waipa Collieries advanced his bid to 6s 3d. There was little inquiry for Australian stocks, and Electro Zinc prefs were offered at 17s 9d/ At the noon call, bank shares were still weak. Bank of New Zealand changed hands at 555, a drop of 9s since yesterday, after which 54s 6d was the' best offer. Buyers for Unions dropped out, and the best bid for New South Wales was 10s lower at £3O. Kauri Timber were asked for at 10s. and Kaiapoi Woollens at 7s 6d.
