FATHER WHO KILLED DAUGHTER TO HANG.

The trial has concluded of William Schubert, aged fifty, a labourer, on a charge of murdering his daughter, May Doris Schubert, aged fourteen, near Newcastle on December 10 last. Schubert, whose defence was that the girl had poisoned herself owing to her condition, was convicted and sentenced to death. Detectives spent many weeks trying to solve the mystery of a girl’s skeleton which was discovered in a lonely bush at Redhead, near Newcastle. They finally established identification by means of jewellery, false teeth and articles of apparel, as May Schubert, aged fourteen, a former resident of Gloucester, a North Coast village. Evidence at the inquest elicited the fact that she was brought to Newcastle early in the year to enter a maternity home, her father accompanying the girl, who was not afterwards seen. The Coroner returned a verdicts that the girl died from strychnine poison, feloniously administered by her father, whose whereabouts then was unknown. Later he was arrested and charged with murder. ___________
