SKITTLED THEM.
Three veteran trundlers secured the bowling averages in Christchurch last Saturday. Arthur Thomas, of St Albans, was as steady as a rock and skittled the Old Boys’ wickets like ninepins. His seven wickets cost only 33 runs. Reg. Read, who appears to be better than ever, wrought havoc against the Sydenham side, his six wickets costing 40 runs. Read has been the mainstay of Canterbury bowling for many years, and it is a remarkable tribute to his fitness that at his age he can still hold his own with the younger generation of trundlers. “ Bill ” Cuningham again got among the scalps for East, his seven for 57 being in keeping with his ether good performances this season.
