Some of the finest gardens in Christchurch are in Fendalton, and several of these, in different years, have been used for the annual parish fete. This year Mr George Murray-Aynsley has kindly lent his beautiful grounds next to St Barnabas Church, in Fendalton Road. A small charge for admission for adults is being made, but none should begrudge it, for the grounds are at present a perfect delight. Several additional stalls this year are added to those that are always in evidence. With a professional conjurer, magician and ventriloquist, and other attractions such as Punch and Judy, and Jack and the Bean Stalk, there will be fun and amusement for all. Music will be supplied by the Hawaiian Orchestra The fete will be opened at 2.30 next Saturda}' by Mrs Croasdale Bowen, whose husband was vicar of Riccarton at the time that Fendalton was part of the parish. Phenomenal catches of rainbow and brown trout are reported from Lake Rotorua, near Murchison. This lake, which is about twelve miles long, is set in some of the most beautiful scenery in the South Island. Half a dozen fish were taken to Wellington yesterday by Mr F. Mockett, of Murchison, states a Press Association telegram. They rangted from 81b to 121 b, and all were in excellent condition.
