MAY RACE ROUND COAST OF N.Z.
YACHT OWNER HOPES FOR SPORTING EVENT. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, November 27. One of the most interesting yacht races in New Zealand aquatic history is promised if the Melbourne boat Oimara crosses the Tasman in January. Mr J. M’Lean, owner of the Wellington 36-foot yacht Restless, has announced that he is willing to meet the Australian boat in a circuit of New Zealand, if the more ambitious race from Wellington to Australia cannot be arranged. Mr M’Lean’s suggestion is that any race arranged should be a pure sporting event without professional skippers. The Oimara was unable to find a competitor in Australia for the transTasman trip, but the owner (Mr F. J. Bennell) stated that he would nevertheless make the voyage.
