GOOD QUALITY WOOL FORWARD.

CITY MAY HAVE 22,000 BALES FOR FIRST SALE. That the wool already in Christchurch stores is at least equal in qual- . ity to that of last season is the opinion of local woolbrokers, who state that the wool has come off the sheep well. Some ■ of them declare thta the quality is , ' slightly better than was the case last : season. The number of bales offered at the , first Christchurch sale last season was 15,236. This year the first sale is limited to 22,000 bales. Whether the ■ full catalogue number will be entered , will depend to a great extent on the weather, which, if showery, will delay what shearing has not been completed. ’ Wool is coming into the stores rather slowly, but it is the general expectation of brokers that the full number of . bales will be included in the catalogue. Very nearly 10,000 bales of last sea- . son’s wool which was held over from : sale owing to the low prices then ruling is in the hands of farmers and brokers. It is expected that a considerable proportion of this wool will be offered at the first sale, and will, with the consignments of new season’s wool coming in almost daily, make up the full -catalogue. Some farmers’ however, having held over their wool from last season, have the present intention of continuing to hold it uritil, perhaps, the second sale, by which time they hope that the market will have brightened. The next sale in New Zealand will be at Wanganui to-morrow. The Christchurch sales will start on Friday, December 12; Monday, January 26, 1931; Monday, March 2; and Tuesday, March 31.
