CLUB APPROVES COTTON LINES FOR LIFE-SAVING.
A meeting of the North Beach Surf and Life Saving Club was held last evening, Mr C. R. Riordan presiding. It was decided that the club costume should be the same as last year and that a dozen more should be ordered. - The matter of a badge for the club was left to Mr Riordan. The following members were appoint ed honorary beach inspectors:—Messrs A. Brand. C. R. Riordan. G. Dew, D. H Symes?, 11. M. S. Dawson and L. R. Moore. A letter from Mr C. Cauldwell, of the New Brighton Surf and Life Saving Club, stating that he was surprised to find the life-saving clubs using Manila instead of cotton lines was received. He stated that although Manila lines were stronger, cotton lines were far more flexible and easy to handle. He said that in Australia cotton lines were used far more than Manila. The secretary said that had replied stating that they approved of the lines at present in use. His action was approved. Mr Dawson wag elected delegate to. the Canterbury Centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society. Messrs S. T. Midgley. P. Thomson and , Miss G. A. Black were elected members , of the club. Opening day was fixed for December 14
