PAYMENT MADE FOR KILLING OF DEER. At the monthly meeting of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society Mr W. 11. Robinson presided. A letter was received from Messrs Von Sierakowski and A. W. Sparrow regarding fines recently imposed upon them for taking native game without a license. It was resolved to reply that the society had no say in the matter of the amounts of the fines. The Department of Internal Affairs advised that a bonus of 2s per tail would be paid for all deer destroyed in all parts of the South Island, and that they would appoint officers in each district to receive tails and pay the bonus. Permission was granted to Mr W. J. Robertson, of Anama, to take a party to shoot out the shags at the Maori Lakes. Regulation No. 5 of the local fishing regulations was discussed, and it was resolved that regulation numbered 5 on the back of the fishing licenses be cancelled and the following local regulation inserted:—“lt shall be unlawful to use any wire, either plain or twisted, or gimp trace of a greater gauge than twenty-one standard wire gauge, or a rod consisting of only one piece of a greater length than lift.” It was resolved to write to both the North Canterbury and South Canterbury Societies asking them whether they had any regulation in force with regard to the length of one-piece rods. It was decided to appoint Mr F. Ryan, of the Rangitata fishing settlement, to collect accommodation fees from users of the society’s anglers’ hut at Rangitata. Ashburton Bowling Club. Further matches have been conducted by the Ashburton Bowling Club in connection with its championships. The results are as follow: Singles—Mactier 18, Featherstone 13. Pairs—Hardy and Bains (s.) 24, Flanagan and Sawle (s.) 20; Acton and Clarkson (s.) 26, Mitchell and Dunlop (s.) 14. The forthcoming club championship rinks pidtehes will be played on Saturday:—Martin, Hard)', Mitchell, Madden (s.) v. Sawle, Percy, Doherty, Milsom (s.); Amos, Feathertsone, M’Eachen, W. R. Lane (s.) v. Woods, Clarkson, Acton, Higgins (s.); Easterbrooks’ rink a bye. Three rinks will represent the Ashburton Bolvling Club in the annual Town v. Country match at Christchurch on December 6. The rinks are as follow: —Featherston, Dunn, Easterbrook, Acton (s.); Amos, Madden, M'Sherry, Iliggins (s.); Woods, M’Eachen, W. R. Lane and Milsom (s.). At the annual match between re- | presentatives of the Christchurch and South Canterbury Bowling Centres for the bteans Cup, to be played at Christchurch on December 6, the Ashburton Sub-Centre will be represented by the following rink:—Doherty (Ashburton), A. Lane (Ashburton), Holmes (Rakaia), Hedges (Allenton) (s.). The Ashburton Bowling Club will play a match against Allenton in the pennant competition, on the Allenton green on Wednesday, December 3, when the Ashburton Club will be represented by the following rinks:—Baker, Sawle, M’Eachen, Easterbrook (s.); Amos, Laing, Bonnington, A. Lane (s.); Round, Moore, Dunn, Clarkson (s.) ; M’Bean, Bain, Doherty, Actdn (s.).
