FIVE SHILLING TOTE SUPPORTED
WELL-KNOWN RACING . MAN FAVOURS TRIAL. (Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, November 27. The decision of the Takapuna Jockey Club to sell 5s tote tickets has found favour with Mr Fred Earl, K.C., the well-known sportsman and racing owner, who has been a member of the Auckland Racing Club’s committee ever since the totalisator was instituted. “In any case,” said Mr Earl, “whether the course be wise or not, the Takapuna Club has an undeniable right to try the experiment, and to resent adverse criticism of what is entirely its own affair.” He considers that the step is well warranted by present conditions, and says that the club is to be highly commended for its courage and resource. Mr Earl said that he would also continue to advocate the issue of ten-shil-ling totalisator tickets on the lawn at Ellerslie, but in the meantime it would appear that he was in a minority on the Auckland Racing Club committee*
