CANDIDATES FOR THE TRAMWAY ELECTIONS.

The opposition of the Christchurch Citizens’ Association to a levy of tramway rates was emphasised by the candidates for- the central area, Messrs W. Hayward, E. 11. Andrews and G. T. Booth, who spoke at St Matthew’s schoolroom, St Albans, last evening. There was a fair attendance, and the candidates were accorded a cordial hearing. Messrs John Wood and A. A. M’Lachlan, who are the candidates for the Riccarton-Fendalton area, addressed a well-attended meeting at the Riccarton Town Hall. The meeting, which was called by the Riccarton Citizens’ Association, was presided over by Mr R. W. Brighting. At the conclusion of the proceedings both candidates were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The meeting also carried a vote of thanks to Mr Wood for his services to Riccarton as the representative of that district on the Tramway Board for a long period of years. Messrs J. M’Combs, M.P., G. Manning, R. Macfarlane, P. C. Webb and A. 11. Scales, Labour candidates for the central sub-district, addressed meetings at Tennyson Street, Beckenham, and Caledonian Road, St Albans, last evening, and were accorded votes of thanks and confidence. Messrs G. T. Thurston and J. M’Combs, M.P., addressed electors of the Spreydon-Addington sub-district at the corner of Selwyn Street and South Crescent Road. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried.
