UNITED BURGESSES’ ASSOCIATION MEETS.

The council of the United Burgesses* Association met last evening, Mr R. J. Ecroyd presiding-. Others resent were— Messrs J. Stewart, G. T. Baker, G. Lewis, E. E. Adcock, F. T. Boyce, J. R. Jones, D. W. Bartrurn. A. A. Cornelius, T. A. Gates, W Moffat and R. Carter. 0 The City Council wrote stating that the decision to purchase cemetery land in Bromley was arrived at after exhaustive inquiries and inspections of land in othr-r districts. The letter pointed out that land to be used for cemeteries must have soil which is dry and free from shingle. Land offered in other districts did not have these properties. It was also pointed out that land too far from the city would make funerals more expensive. The Cemeteries Act forbade tine purchase of land inside a city for cemetery purposes. A further point, was that the belt of trees round the present property effectually concealed the cemetery from passers-by. It was decided to ask the City Council to give particulars of the respective costs of chipping streets up to the side channel and of tar sealing. It was decided to ask the City Council to have Hulbert Street. Linwood, regraded and put into ivpair. The meeting resolved to get into touch with Canterbury members of Parliament in reference to increased representation for the city on the Waimakariri River Trust.
