CANON WILFORD GIVEN ILLUMINATED ADDRESS.
To express their feeling towards Canon J. R. Wilford and Mrs Wilford on their departure for a year’s visit to England, representatives of the executive of St George’s Hospital, of the Order of St Teresa, of the nursing staff of the hospital, and of the Friends of St George gathered on Monday evening. Mr George Gould, chairman of the executive, said they all were sorry to lose the inspiring force, and presence of Canon Wilford, even for a short period, though they all recognised the wisdom of his withdrawal from the strain of his and Mrs Wilford’s sad experience in recent days. The executive had put its feelings formally into words which he could ask the Canon to listen to and receive. An illuminated address, executed at the Canterbury College School of Art, was then read to the Canon. Canon Wilford replied, thanking those present for their kind message and for their good wishes. He briefly set out the vision he had regarding St George’s Hospital, and assured the executive that there was no real obstacle to its realisation. Canon and Mrs Wilford leave this evening for England.
