"HOSPITAL BOARD KEEPS EXPENSES TO LOWEST."
“The public can rest assured that the Hospital Board will not spend a penny more than is necessary,” declared the chairman of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Mr H. J. Otley) at a board meeting to-day. The chairman’s remarks had reference to a letter from the Oxford County Council, which urged that the board, when preparing its estimates for next year, should keep the amounts down to the lowest level possible, in view* of the financial stringency and its burden on farmers. “We may reply that that has always been the case,” continued the chairman. “I have noted that the Riccarton Borough Council has passed a resolution along these lines. Every member of the
board is quite aware of the necessity for economy. It may be said that I anj always preaching economy, and do not always carry it out. We alwaj-s do cur best.”
