ATHLETES PUT UP VERY GOOD TIMES.

EVENING MEETING HELD BY THE VARSITY CLUB. Several good performances were recorded at last evening’s athletic meeting, hejd under the control of the Varsity Club. Very fair times were put up in the 220yds handicap, in spite of a troublesome wind, and C. S. Ell ran finely to rpmp home in the mile handicap. The A grade relay again resulted in a win for the Canterbury Club. The similarity of the distances—44oyds each —did not suit Varsity, the winning Club’s keen rivals, as Canterbury have a good stock of quarter-milers. A. Bullivant, the provincial quarter champion, opened up a big gap for the Canterbury Club and made a win assured. The events were got off right up to time and again the meeting reflected credit on the local officials. Results:— 220 YARDS OPEN HANDICAP. First heat: R. Cordery (3yds) I, R. IT.
