Next Saturday the eleventh round of games will be played in the first (under sixteen years) grade of the Canterbury Boys’ Cricket Association’s 1930 competition. At the same time a commencement will be made with the knockout competition in the lower grades. Owing to the fact that there are only two Saturdays available for play, it has been found necessary to reduce the number of competitors in each grade to four, thereby limiting the knock-out to a couple of rounds. No team has been eliminated, however, the necessary reduction being effected by the fusion of certain of the weaker elevens. In consequence, the teams for the knock-out competitions have been chosen by the association’s selectors, who intend that the games in same shall count as trial matches in connection with the picking of the representative teams which are to play against Otago and the West Coast. In cases where two schools or clubs have been combined, each of them must supply sufficient material for their own players and, in the event of any boy being unable to play next Saturday, the school concerned will be expected to provide a suitable emergency. The captain of each team must provide a score-book and a ball for his particular game. The following arc the arrangements for next Saturday:— First Grade. St Bede’s College v. Christ’s College B, Christ’s College No. 6; St Andrew’s College v. Christ’s College No. 8; West Christchurch District High School v. Boys’ High School A, Straven Road No. 5; Technical College A v. Boys’ High School B, Straven Road No. 6. Second Grade. Christ’s College v. Boys’ High School, Ensor's Road No. 1; St Bede’s CollegeSt Andrew’s College v. A meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Boys’ Cricket Association was held last 'evening at the Technical ; College, when the following were present:—Messrs C. T. Rix, E. J. Chennells, R. R. Gibson, H. W. Gourlay, G. H. G. Hobbs, H. S. Baverstoek, H. P. Wise, 1 A. Thompson and G. S. A. Biltcliff (honorary secretary). Mr C. T. Rix was appointed chairman for the present year.

Completion of Competition. The Competitions Committee reported that, owing to the fact that three teams had been level for second place, it had proved impossible to adhere to the arrangements originally made in connection with the completion of the competition in the first grade. They had decided to stage three more rounds and to abandon all idea of a knock-out competition in that section. The seasonal competition had been completed in the other grades, the winning teams in the different sections being as follows:—Second grade, Technical College; third grade, Boys’ High School: fourth grade. Boys’ High School; fifth grade, Boys’ High School A. The knock-out competition in the four lower grades is tor commence next Saturday. The report was adopted. The performances of the various nominees for the E. R. Caygill bat were considered, and after discussion it was decided that this season the bat should be awarded to D. Cobden, of the Boys’ High School. Representative Matches. Letters were received from the cricketing authorities in Greymouth, Hokitika and Dunedin regarding the playing of representative matches this season. The Otago Boys* Cricket Association suggested that their annual matches with the Canterbury Boys’ Association should be played in Christchurch on December 19 and 20. After some discussion it was decided to advise Otago that the dates were unsuitable and to suggest December 13 and 15 as alterna-

tives and, in the event of these proving inconvenient to Otago, to ask them to choosfc dates after the New Year. Greymouth and Hokitika both advised that they were willing to receiv* the Boys’ Association represen tativ* teams some time during December. The following tentative itinerary wai drawn up for the approval of the West Coast authorities:—December 16, Canterbury teams leave Christchurch for Greymouth; December 17 and 18, Canterbury play In Greymouth; December 19, Canterbury travel to Hokitika; December 20 and 22, Canterbury play ia Hokitika; December 23, Canterbury turn to Christchurch. Mr G. S. A. Biltcliff was appointed ft* make all necessary arrangements regarding the tour of the West Coast and the Otago games, and also to act as manager of the teams selected to travel to the West Coast. Mr R. R. Gibson was appointed assistant manager for Year.
