Bride-elect Honoured. Recently the Ashley Basket-ball Club gave a dance in honour of one of its members, Miss Jean Criglington, whose marriage will take place this week. Music was supplied by Hunnibell s orchestra and extras were played by Miss Thelma Peach. Mr H. Schmidt was M.C. During the evening Mrs J. C. Pateman (president) asked Miss , Criglington to accept a silver-mounted crystal salad bowl and servers from the club, and wished her every happiness in the future. Kitchen Evening. An enjoyable kitchen evening in honour of Miss Iris Black, whose marriage will take place this week, was given at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. J. Shaw, Redruth Avenue, Sprevdon. On Monday an enjoyable “gift” evening was given by the Hope of Christ* church Lodge in the Hastings Street Hall in honour of Miss Myrtle Restall and Mr Clarence Teague, whose marriage will take place next month. Many i useful presents were received, and the evening was brought to a close with 1 the singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” Bluebird Fireside Circle. The 1930 session of the Bluebird Fireside Circle, connected with the East Belt Methodist Church, came to a close recently, when a banquet was given in the church parlour. The evening passed pleasantly with musical items, games and competitions. The musical items were given by the Misses Dorothy Steel and Buff Dixon. On Saturday last the Circle was entertained by Mrs Blair and the Lyttelton Bluebird Fireside Club at the Methodist Parsonage, Lyttelton. A very happy evening was spent. Miss Nancy Foster had arranged a very fine programme, consisting of instrumental, vocal and elocutionary items, games and competitions, which were greatly enjoyed. Instrumental items were given by the Misses Nancy Foster, Freda Foster and D. Perry; vocal items by the Misses D. Perry, V. Perry and A. Shuker. Mrs Blair gave the elocutionary items. Miss Winnie Sherris won the competition; A dainty supper was served by the hostesses.
