NO REPORT ON WAITAKI SCHEME.
PROFESSOR HORNELL HAD NOT SUFFICIENT TIME. (Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, November 22. A question was put to the Hon W. B. Taverner (Minister of Public Works) by a correspondent of the “Star” as to whether a report on the Waitaki hydro-electric scheme is being obtained by the Government from Professor Horn ell. The Minister replied that Professor Hornell visited the works, but, on account of the necessity for his early return to Sweden, necessitating leaving Wellington on November 1, insufficient time was available for the preparation of a full report while the professor was in the Dominion. The Minister added that, prior to the visit to Waitaki, he discussed the scheme with Professor Hornell, and that these discussions were continued on the expert’s return from the south. The question of whether a full detailed report—which the professor was prepared to make from Sweden—should be obtained was then considered by the Cabinet, and it was decided not to proceed further in the matter.
