WARM WRAPS WORN WITH FLORAL FROCKS AT RICCARTON

Filmy frocks, with their long trailing skirts and fluttering cape collars, were partly hidden beneath fur coats and cosy wraps at the Riccarton racecourse to-day—the third day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s metropolitan meeting. A keen easterly breeze made conditions rather unpleasant on the lawns. The sefene, however, was a beautiful one, with the colourful floral frocks of the womenfolk making a gay contrast to the fresh green of the lawns and the deep blue cloud-swept sky. Among those present were:— Mrs H. A. Knight, wife of the chairman, wore a black silk repp costume with black and white revers, and a black Bangkok hat trimmed with black velvet ribbon. Others noticed on the lawn were:— Mrs George Aitken, black crepe de chine frock with bolero opening over bisque crepe de chine jumper, black hat with crinoline straw brim. Mrs George Rhodes, violet frock under a seal coat and a felt hat trimmed With panne velvet. Mrs Herbert Elworthy, black repp coat over blue and beige patterned crepe de chine frock, black crinoline hat with ecru lace covered crown. Mrs Arthur Elworthy, black crepe de chine frock, patterned in lime green and gold, under a black faced cloth coat with black fur collar, cuffs and bordered hem, black Ballibuntl hat. Mrs Harold Barker, French gray cloth frock smartly pleated and a navy coat and hat. Mrs Maxwell Deans, marine blue flecked jumper suit and navy straw hat. Mrs J. F. Buchanan, navy blue coat with squirrel collar, over blue floral crepe de chine frc-ck; navy Bangkok hat. Mrs Charles Turrell (Wellington), navy ensemble, with skunk stole and navy Bangkok hat. Miss Morkane, beige and black spotted frock with deep frilled skirt and shoulder cape and a black stratv hat. Miss C. Morkane, bottle green crepe de chine frock spotted in a lighter green, 1 and a light green straw hat to tone. Mrs Derrick Gould, marine-blue crepe de chine frock under a fawn coat, fawn panamalac straw hat with blue velvet ribbon trimming. Mrs G. Leslie Rutherford, black and white pin-spotted costume, with white pleated crepe de chine blouse, black Bangkok hat with grey trimming. Mrs Charles Reid, lacquer red and black patterned crepe de chine frock and hat to match. Miss Betty Rutherford, Royal-blue cloth costume and small felt hat to match, and a marmot necklet. Mrs Marmaduke Bethell, navy georgette frock with bolero, beige crepe de chine bodice, blue felt’ hat to tone, and fox fur. Mrs George Macdonald, sage-green flecked tweed coat over a costume with a light panamalac straw hat to tone. Mrs Herbert Acton-Adams, long black crepe de chine frock with satin coat heavily trimmed with cream fox fur, black Bangkok hat with large, pale primrose, drooping brim.
