MAN SENTENCED TO SEVEN DAYS IN GAOL.

“ You must not think that you can play with the probation system,” said Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., this morning, in sentencing Claude Albert Taylor, aged 24, to seven days’ imprisonment, and increasing the term of his probation by twelve months. Taylor was brought before the court for failing to comply with the terms of his release on probation. The Probation Officer (Mr Darby) said that in December last Taylor was convicted on a charge of false pretences, and was admitted to probation for two years. Taylor’s manner had been well nigh unbearable. Witness had dealt with him as patiently as he could, but had not got much satisfaction. Mr Darby said that he was not pressing lor a heavy penalty.
