KING'S APPROVAL OF LONDONS LORD MAYOR.

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Tel egraph—Copy right.) RUGBY, October 13. Lord Sanlcey, the Lord Chancellor, received the Lord Mayor-elect, Alderman Sir William Phene Neal, in the House of Lords, this morning, and conveyed to him his Majesty's approval of the choice of the City of London.

Sir William Phene Neal is a son of Mr William Neal, of Cherry Hinton Hall, Cambridge, and was bom in 1860. He was educated at University College, London, and was admitted a solicitor in ISSS. He was elected a Common Councilman for Broad-street Ward in 1893, became Deputy Aiderman in 1912, and was chosen Alderman of Lime-street Ward in 1922. He is a member of the Horners’, Paviors’, Loriners’, and Bakers’ Companies. His special interest in municipal work has been the administration of the markets. He was the originator, organiser, and chairman of a national conference at the Guilldhali in 1921 on the subject of the embargo on the importation of Canadian cattle. As a result of that conference, the embargo was raised, and a grievance under which the dominion had long suffered was removed. He is a Governor of St Bartholomew’s Hospital, a Commissioner for Income Tax, and one of his Majesty’s Lieutenants for the City of London. He married in 1899, Eleanor Vvse, daughter of Mr Thomas Gage Beatlev, a member of the Corporation.
