SAILING AND POWER BOAT ASSOCIATION.

i SEASON IS REVIEWED IN ANNUAL REPORT.

The annual report of the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Association, to be presented at the second annual general meeting this evening, states ihat the association held four regattas during the season. The Easter regatta at Port Bevy proved the most successful. A very large number of boats were at Port Bevy and most of them entei'ed flic races. Mr A. F. Stacey Was appointed patron for the day, and I save a fine cup for yachts to be wou - outright, which was won by Golleen. I A sweepstake race was held during the holidays, apd Mr J. R. Collins provided ' a sailing race. The Canterbury Outj board Club held a regatta at Akaroa J during Easter, this proving very suc- ; cessful.

Sanders Cup—Three trials were held to select a representative. Betty winning two races and Colleen one. However. owing to the attitude of the owner of Betty over the selection of the crew, Colleen was selected to represent Canterbux-y. Mr M. E. Lyons disagreed with the actfon taken, and resigned his position a 3 president of the association. Colleen was not successful in the contest, but was placed second in each of two races, for her class held during the Auckland regatta, the prize money being presented to Colleen’s owner, Mr F. Bobbie, b'y the association. Eileen (Otago) was the successful challenger for the cup. Stacey Trophies—These races w . - held during March, and each attraoteu a large number ol' entries. Fidget won the Irene Stacey Trophy at Redcliffs on March 15 out of a field of sixteen boats; and Hakari wou the Beryl Stacey Trophy at Byttelton on March 22 from twelve other competitors.

Tasman Race—The association has given Mr Stacey its approval of his challenge to this race, provided a suitable crew and boat are selected, and that al! arrangements meet with the association’s approval. Championship Races—At the request of the Outboard Club the association decided that all races for Canterbury championships must be run under the control of the association. The association has also approved of the formation of a national body to control all sailing and power boats in interprovincial contests. It is now awaiting the receipt of further correspondence from Auckland regarding this.

The balance-sheet shows a credit at the bank of £32 17s 9d. During the year the association endeavoured to have its rules incorporated, but after several attempts this has not been finalised. The association has communicated with the Department of Internal Affairs regarding action being taken by certain acclimatisation societies with reference to the use of power boats on lakes.
