WOMAN, QUESTIONED BY POLICE, SHOOTS HERSELF
TRAGIC SEQUEL TO FIRES IN MOUNTAIN RESORT. (United Press Assn.—Ey Electrie Telegraph—Copy right.) SYDNEY, October 14. There were exciting scenes at the fashionable, new Lapstone Hotel, which is a popular resort for mountain motorists near Penrith. In the early morning ten fires simultaneously occurred in various bedrooms, bedding and curtains being ablaze, the hotel staff being kept busy extinguishing flames. The manageress, Miss Bedora Fernandez, who was in an hysterical condition, was being questioned by a police sergeant, when she seized a large revolver from the office drawer and shot herself dead.
The hotel had been in the hands of a receiver, and the police express the opinion that Miss Fernandez was greatly worried on this account, and had made a desperate attempt to burn down the place. The only damage done was to bedding and furnishings.
