Tennis Party At Fernside. At the Fernside Tennis Courts recently an enjoyable tennis party was given in honour of Miss Ruby MTntosh, by the members of the I 'club. After a dainty afternoon’tea had been served, Mr S. C. Hewitt thanked Miss MTntosh for all she had done for the club during the past season, and on behalf of the members presented her with a fruit set on silver stand. An amusing competition was won by Miss M. Carpenter. Gift Afternoon. A number of friends associated with St Bartholomew’s Church, Kaiapoi, recently assembled at the home of Miss Alma Winter, Alcaroa Street, Kaiapoi, when Miss Winter, who is to be married shortly, was the recipient of many dainty gifts. Competitions and songs were contributed and a dainty afternoon tea was served. Kitchen Evening. Mrs R 11. Glufob was the hostess at a kitchen evening at her residence, Mandeviile Street, Riccarton, in honour of Miss Eileen Daley, who will shortly be married. Competitions, games, and dancing were enjoyed. Items were contributed by Misses T Bruce, F. Price and D. Glubb (vocal); Messrs N. Ilabbard and M- George (in struinental) ; and D. Price (piano). Competitions were won by Misses T. , Bruce and K. Morgan, Hills Road, Ileathcote Valley, when a number of friends met to bid Farewell to Mr Owen* Kidd, of Lyttelton, who has been transferred to Dunedin. The time passed pleasantly with games and competitions, the latter being won by' Miss J. Hamilton, Mrs Maloney and Messrs Taylor and M’Lennan. Musical items were contributed by Mr and Mrs M. The hall was prettily decorated with coloured streamers, Chinese lanterns and large bowls of spring blossoms. Bright pink japonica was chosen for decorating the supper tables. The music was. supplied by Cecil ITunnibell’s Orchestra., extras being played by Misses A. Nieman and E. Brady. Novelty dances were won by Miss Una Croft and Mr B. Cook and Miss Alice Nieman and Mr H. Henry. Messrs C. Hiatt and C. Croft were M.C.’s. Coming-of-age Party. A large gathering of friends of Mrs Turton, Rata Street, enjoyed her hosat a gathering held at the Riccarton Town Hall recently to celebrate the coming-of-age of her young daughter, Esmeralda Daisy. Mrs and Miss Turton received their guests, the former wearing a black lace frock, and j the latter a petalled georgette frock j of cherry fed and gold. An enjoyable party was held recentlv at the residence of Mrs J. Eaines, Tonks Street, North Brighton, to celebrate the coming-of-age of Miss J S. Nicholson. Games, competitions and musical items were much enjoyed. A large birthday cake decorated with twenty-one candles, sent by Miss Nieolson’s mother from her home in Central Otago, occupied the chief position on the supper table. A successful concert was given on Monday night by the Trinity Congregational Y.P.O. Club. The programme was a varied one and included a one act play of London suburban life. The acting was of a high order and the large audience showed their appreciation by hearty applause. The “ Professor of Black Magic” and the “Royal Italian Choir” also delighted the audience with i their novel and interesting turns. A short address was given by the Rev D. Gardner Miller on various activities of the club.

A meeting was held in the Orange Hall, Kirwee, on Monday afternoon, to consider the question of holding home nursing classes. There was a fair attendance. Sister D. M. Christian gave a talk on the subject of home nursing and Red Cross work. It was decided to form a class under Sister Christian, the class to commence on October 21. The following officials were elected: President, Mrs J. 11. Selby; secretary, Mrs G. W. Soal; committee, Mesdames A. Anderson, W. L. Stott, F. Johnson and A. L. Stewart.
