What Is The Soul?
To the Editor. Dear Sir, —I feel tempted to attempt to straighten out the tangle that one “Serious”minded person gets us into when he writes Biblically and dogmatically about the soul —the “silver cord”—sin—the mind—and many other things, amusingly mixed up. He is not up to date—his mind seems to be closed to modern ideas; but he seems to be very cocksure. “Nothing more need be said,” he ends up. I think there is a lot more to be said, and there alwaj-s will be on such subjects. Modern psychic science says that the soul is the etheric replica of the body. Clairvoyants have seen it detaching itself from the body at death, which is spiritual birth. When the “silver cord” is severed by those deputed to do so, then death occurs. Mind is the spirit—the divine spark. Sin is the rebellion or contest (when we fail) between the material and spiritual sides of our nature; thus causing discord in our physical lives. Some classes of Bible students say that the gates of hell bang shut on the soul whose “silver cord” is severed in a state of sin. Spiritualism tells another story under these circumstances. PETER TROLOVE.
