NIGHTMARCH TO RETURN.
PHAR LAP'S PROGRAMME. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, October 9. It is reported that Mr 11. Telford, lessee of Phar Dap, in addition to running the horse in the Melbourne Cup, intends to start him in -the Caulfield Cup, which will probably have a demoralising effect on the fields. The trainer of Nightmarch, in the circumstances, has cancelled arrangements for sending Nightmarch to Melbourne for the spring carnival, and instead he will be sent back to the Dominion for the Christmas meetings. MELBOURNE NOTES. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, October 9. The following scratchings have been announced:—Toorak Handicap, Clarius; Debutant Stakes, High Brae, Merrileas and Matchwood: Caulfield Cup. Taisho, ' Paquito, Gay Crest, Ruffler and'Harbinger. Sydney advices state that Veilmond is having heel trouble. Quickfirer and the juvertiles Bassanton and Dogwood will arrive a£ Melbourne next Tuesday. Quickfirer may run in the Caulfield Cup. W. Cook will ride Amounts in the Caulfield Cup, and later in weight-for-age engagements. He may ride Veilmond in the Melbourne Cup. Melbourne Cup scratchings include Paquito, Gay Crest, Ruffler, Troilus and for all Flenn’ngton engagements, Limerick and Arikiwai.
