The children of the Selwyn Free Kindergarten spent a happy day yesterday when the tenth birthday of the branch was celebrated by a party. There was a large gathering of mothers and their friends, who watched with delight the tiny tots at their games The miniature tea tables, with their tiny chairs were covered with dainties of "all sorts for the children. Over these and filled with paper hats were suspended b o large sunflowers, from which variegated streamers hung. Vases of freesias were on the tables and bowls of Japonica and spring flowers brightened the hall. An original birthday cake, in the shape of a doll in an old fashioned frock and a poke bonnet, made by Mrs L. Harding, was the centre of attraction. Miss H. Hull, director of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, asissted by Mrs Keith Iladfield, opened the party. - Miss Hull congratulated the Selwyn Committee. Miss Holland and her staff, on the completion of another successful year: and wished them every success in the future. Mrs F. Hamblin, president of the 'Selwyn Free Kindergarten, presented a book of A. A. Milne’s stories to Miss N. G. Parsons, who is leaving shortly to continue her work with the New Brighton Kindergarten.
