COLOURFUL PICTURE AT LIBERTY THEATRE.

A thoroughly amusing picture has been chosen to head the. bill at the Liberty Theatre this week. It i.s “The Shannons of Broadway,” and is undoubtedly one of the best talking comedies that have come this way. The stars are James and Lucille Gleason, well known in x’audeville in America. James Gleason, besides being an actor of the first class, is a successful writer of plays, his best effort being “Is? Zat So?” which had remarkable success wherever it was staged. James Gleason wrote “The Shannons of Broadway," and there is much of the type of hu mour in this film that made its famous predecessor such a success. The theme of “The Shannons of Broadway” is not the hackneyed back-stage plot, although it is the story of two vaudevillians. Landing in a small town without a job, they are forced to buy the hotel to get lodgings. They Ijecome involved in the life of the town, and eventually sell out at a good profit. The film i.s packed with humour and contains a number of catchy musical items. The supporting pictures are wide in their interest and well presented. Ar. interesting news film contains, among other items, a picture of the launching of the latest Shamrock, and records a short speech by Sir Thomas Lipton. Among the musical items is another of the series made in conjunction with the Schubert centenary.
