Competing in the Tour de France cycle race, two cyclists, Pellissier and Guerra, came to blows on their arrival at Charleville. Guerra claimed that Pellissier had interfered with his arrival, and knocked over Pellissier whereupon a fight ensued. until the excited onlookers separated the contestants Pellissier was fined 300 francs for swerving in from the course, and Guerra was fined 500 francs for assaulting Pellissier.

The race started from Paris on July 2, and has been ridden over nineteen stages averaging eighty-three miles The final two stages, from Charleville to Malo and from Malo back to Paris were scheduled for the past week-end
