“I have no sympathy either with the tote or with the bookmakers," said the Rev J. F. Coursey this morning. “They are both a curse. Gambling is one of the greatest evils of the social system at the present time. I think that the present economic situation is largely caused by gambling.” Mr. Coursey said that, although he knew that bookmakers operated in Christchurch, he did not know where he could put his hand on one. Racing clubs, he said, were also largely responsible for the encouragement of gambling. _
