ACCUSED RANG UP AND ORDERED TYRES.
Charles James Flutey, aged thirtyseven years, a labourer, appeared before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., to-day, and I was remanded for sentence until July 15 on two charges of fals# pretences which he pleaded guilty. (1) That on June 2, with intent to defraud, he obtained from the Goodyear Tyre Company three tyres valued at £5 ss, by falsely representing that they were for A. T. Raynor. (2) That he obtained two tyres from the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., by falsely representing that they were for R. O. Dixon, of West Eyreton. Chief-Detective Carroll said that accused had rung up the Goodyear Tyre Company and asked for a quotation for the three tyres. Later he collected them and signed for them in the name j of C. Jones. The files respecting the ; other charge were at Kaikoura, and the ' Chief-Detective suggested that the case should be adjourned.
