WAIMAKARIRI RIVER TRUST HAS MEETING.
The Waimakariri River Trust met yesterday afternoon; present—Messrs J Wood (chairman), R. O. Dixon, H. B. Evans, J. Leslie. W. P. Spencer and A. Manliire. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs ,T. H. Blackwell and G. Gould and Sir Francis Boys. The report for June submitted by*the engineer (Mr H. W. Harris) stated that the returned soldiers gang had been engaged in tree planting. The R.S.A. had agreed to give a further subsidy of £IOO, and the engineer suggested that application be made to the Government for a £1 for £1 subsidy the money to be spent on planting not provided for under the loan. The actual diversion of Collier’s Creek was almost completed. The contractor had made a start on the Cust bridge at Fernside, bad completed the dismantling of the old bridge and would be starting cn the pile-driving this week. The dismantling showed the very dangerous state the bridge was in. The report Was adopte-d. It was decided to establish a camp at Hayward's for clearing work, and. If possible, a further camp within a fortnight to employ from thirtv to thirty-five men, .approximately £soo to be expended on such work.
