STOCK PRICES FIRM AT ADDINGTON SALE

LARGE LINE OF CATTLE FROM NORTH ENTERED. P.e cut ruling prices were maintain- ‘ ed in every section at the Metropolitan ; Market at Addington yesterday. The features of the sale were the appearance of another line of North Island , cattle, and the very small yarding of fat lambs, the smallest so far this season. Beef -was yarded in numbers almost equal to last week’s total, and included 130 head of North Islanders. There was an erratic sale, but values all over were maintained. Fat sheep were more numerous than they were last week, and met a steady sale over all. There was less keen demand for light sorts and also for very heavy pens, but sheep in between were keenly sought after. Values were, on the whole, up to those of last week. Fat lambs were yarded in very small numbers, and a great deal of the entry was not of very attractive quality. There were, however, odd pens of lambs of exceptional quality, and these sold well. Values over the w-hole sale were on a par with those of last week. The total entry of store sheep comprised only a few odd pens, with nothing striking about it at all. The bu\*ing was restricted to half a dozen farmers, although there was a fairly large audience. Values were maintained on the basis of last week’s. Values were:—Tat Cattle. From the point of view of both numbers and quality the offering in the store cattle pens was an exceptionally poor one. and there was very little to interest graziers. There were no steers and no yearlings, the entry consisting chiefly of rough cows. The best cow price was £6, which was paid for an animal that originally was consigned to the fat. pens. There were a few potting bulls forward, and the best of these made up to £B. Dairy Cattle. There was a small yarding of fiftytwo head of dairy cattle. The general quality was poor with few outstanding cows offering. The top price for the sale was £l4 15s, secured for a Shorthorn cow sold on account of C. Hamilton (Tai Tapu). For the quality sorts the sale was on a par with late rates, but cows in profit and backward sorts were bard to quit. Values were:— Extra good second and third calvers to £l4 15s.
