FIRM FAILED TO SEND IN CLIENT'S LAND RETURNS.
It was stated in the Magistrate’s Court to-day that the Commissioner of Taxes had not received a return of land from Murdo M’Leod since 1924. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., was on the Bench. A fine of £2 and costs was imposed. Defendant, for whom Mr Sim appeared, pleaded guilty. Mr Brown, representing the Department, said that M’Leod had propertj* valued at nearly £27,000, and had not sent in his returns for some years. The return for the current year, however, had come to hand. There had not been any evasion, the facts, being that the defendant had employed a firm to send in his returns and the firm had omitted to do so.
