MAORI MATCH CANCELLED
THE BULLER UNION ARE DISAPPOINTED. Per Press Association. WESTPORT, July 8. General disappointment was expressed this evening when a telegram was received stating that the Maori Advisory Board reluctantly regretted having to cancel the visit to Westport of the Maori team, which was due to play Buller here on Saturday. All arrangements had been made to tender the visitors a complimentary ball on Friday evening and to place on the field on Saturday a team that would thoroughly test the football capabilities of the visitors. Now all the arrangements have to go by the board, to the general disappointment of the community. At a special meeting of the Management Committee of the Buller Rugby Union to-night, it was resolved to wire a protest against the short notice of the cancellation of the visit and of the disappointment that such a cancellation should take place, further to urge the New Zealand Rugby Union to send to Westport the AIL Black team prior to the playing of the fourth test at Wellington next month. ASHBURTON UNION. At tho weekly meeting of the Ashburton Rugby Union, Mr S. H. Sullivan presiding, it was reported that the. Ellesmere Union had agreed to the arrangements for matches with the Ashburton senior and junior representative teams at I.eeston on August 9. It was agreed to write to the Sydenham Club suggesting a senior match with Methven on Saturday. Jt was decided to write to the Malvern Union asking that a Senior B representative match with Ashburton be played at Methven in August. Following is the draw for Saturday: Seniors—Old Boys v.
