TEAM WITHDRAWS FROM COMPETITION.
WEST CHRISTCHURCH MEMBERSHIP IS WEAK. The West Christchurch Old Boys* senior grade team has withdrawn from the competition, and permission has been granted by the Rugby Union for up to five of the senior players to turn out for the club’s other teams each Saturday. Mr W. Britten reported to last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Union that four delegates from the West Christchurch Ciub had attended a meeting of the Competitions Committee, and had asked that their senior team be withdrawn owing to the difficulty of fielding a full fifteen each week. Mr Britten moved that the request be granted by the union. The chairman (Mr A. E. M’Phail): You will remember that West asked that they might withdraw owing to the number of casualties in their team making it difficult for them to turn out. Dr W. S. Seed said that West had about ten senior players who were willing to play in the junior grade if permitted to do so. The suggestion was that, in order that their other teams might not be broken up, they should play several each Saturday. The Competitions Committee agreed that West could not field more than five of the former senior players each Saturday in the junior competition. If they infringed the points should go against them. Mr Britten: There' is only one mare match to be played before the finish of the first round of the junior competition. Mr St J. J. Dunne: Would the union grant permission to some of those players to turn out for other teams? The chairman: We can deal with that matter when it arises. The recommendations of the Competitions Committee were adopted. NORTH CANTERBURY SUBUNION. The results of matches played last Saturday are as follows: Seniors—Glenmark 9, Cus t 8. Oxford won from Kowai by default. Junior?—Oxfoi*d 6, Glenmark 6; Ohoka 17, Clarkville 0; Amberley 26, Woodend 9. _ The draw and referees for Saturday are as follows: Seniors—Oxford v. Glenmark (Mr W. C. Templeton); Cust v. Woodend (Mr F. Rowe): Kowai a bye. Juniors —Amberley v. Oxford (Mr G. W Rhodes); Woodend v. Ohoka (Mr F. Huria): Glenmark v. Loburn (Mr R. Forsythe); Clarkville a bye.
