DRIVER OF CAR LOSES LICENSE.

(Special to the “ Star.’’) AUCKLAND, June 30.

Stanley Francis Roulston Holmes, a visitor to the Dominion was fined £4O and had his license cancelled for twelve months for being drunk in charge of a car at Otahuhu on Friday night.

He dined with friends at an Auckland hotel, and later went for a drive in the country, the car overturning when travelling round a bend at 1 am. All the party, of two men and two women, got out safely. All were under the influence of drink. When a traffic inspector came on the scene later the car had been righted and two of the party were asleep in it. . The inspector told Holmes that he would have to accompany him to the police station, but defendant, after saying “ You’ll have to catch me first,’ set off down the road. He was later found near the railway station in another car. He was arrested and taken to the police station, where it was found (three hours after the accident) that he had recovered from the effects of the liquor.
